How to Produce Funeral Nameplates

Funeral nameplates are a consistent source of work for funeral homes, monument makers and businesses specializing in personalization. Used for headstones, mausoleum niches, cremation urns, memorial crosses and commemorative monuments, they make it possible to produce personalized items quickly and efficiently while ensuring long-term durability.

Names, dates, personal messages, religious symbols and photographs transform a simple nameplate into a lasting tribute. Every project is unique and often requires the production of one-off pieces or small batches tailored to specific customer requirements.

Thanks to modern engraving and marking technologies, it is possible to produce elegant funeral nameplates in-house that are weather-resistant, durable and perfectly suited to the needs of families, monument makers and funeral service professionals

How to Produce Funeral Nameplates

Funeral nameplates are used to identify burial niches, mausoleum niches, cremation urns, family graves and commemorative monuments. Compared to direct engraving on stone, they offer faster production times, lower costs and greater flexibility when personalizing text, images and decorative elements.

A memorial designed to last deserves an engraving that stands the test of time.

Modern engraving technologies make it possible to reproduce names, dates, epitaphs, religious symbols, photographs and decorative artwork on a wide range of materials. The ability to produce even individual pieces quickly makes this application particularly suitable for the day-to-day needs of funeral homes, monument makers and cemetery operators.

Funeral Applications

Funeral nameplates are commonly used for headstones, mausoleum niches, family graves, cremation urns, memorial crosses, exhumation markers and commemorative memorials. They can also be used for temporary or permanent identification throughout the various stages of cemetery management.

Materials Used

Aluminum is the most widely used material for funeral nameplates and urn plaques. Brass and bronze are also commonly used, particularly for cemetery applications. Stainless steel is less frequently used, while outdoor-rated metallic-effect plastic materials are often chosen for temporary cemetery nameplates and markers.

Engraving Personalization

In addition to names and dates, it is possible to reproduce photographs, religious symbols, personal dedications, coats of arms, decorative motifs and other custom graphic elements. Digital engraving technologies allow each project to be tailored to the specific requirements of the family or customer.

One-Off and Custom Production

Every funeral nameplate is typically unique. CNC and laser technologies make it possible to produce even a single customized item without dedicated tooling, reducing lead times and operating costs.

Recommended Machines

For the production of metal funeral nameplates, we recommend the Magic S3, a CNC engraver that produces fast, quiet and elegant engravings using a diamond-tip tool. The Magic E4 is particularly useful when multiple nameplates need to be produced simultaneously or when brass and plastic materials must also be cut and milled. Laser technologies are generally reserved for more specialized applications, and the most suitable laser source should be selected according to the customer's specific requirements.
